Tillworth Retreat is a deluxe Round Top Texas bed and breakfast.
THE FRONTIER HOUSE

Built in the 1840s as a dogtrot, the Frontier House has been meticulously restored to create two luxury suites.

Each suite comprises a bedroom, an adjoining sitting room and a private bathroom with shower. The original log cabin area creates massive bedrooms which are further accentuated by the vaulted tin ceilings, evoking the early frontier days. Yet the opulent and elegant furnishings are reminiscent of the finest European hotels. The sitting rooms each offer a double-size whirlpool tub as well as a gas log fire place, day-bed, trundle bed, refrigerator and microwave.

THE ALBERT SUITE

The Albert, so named as a reminder of a trip to the Far East (if you want to know more, ask us when you come to stay and we will tell you the story and how it has influenced the level of hospitality we aim to achieve at Tillworth). The furniture in the bedroom is primarily French combined with original art work by such renowned artists as Leonard Baskin.

The sitting room is heavily influenced by our travels in China with many pieces of antique furniture.

THE VICTORIA SUITE

Being English, it would not be ‘proper’ to have an Albert Suite without an accompanying Victoria Suite!

The Victoria Suite houses a selection from our mask collection. The ones displayed are primarily from South America. The furniture in the bedroom, with its California king-size bed, has a strong Southwest feel with an emphasis on the romantic.

This theme continues in the sitting room, redolent of long summer days, walks in the country, D.H. Lawrence and sun flowers.

THE SENTINEL

We have recently completed the restoration of what is reputedly the oldest two-storey log house in Fayette County (circa 1826).

We took it down log by log, moved it to our front pasture, repaired or replaced logs where necessary, re-notched them and restacked the whole with a new roof. We have retained the integrity of the original building to the fullest extent, using reclaimed floors, doors, windows and stairs.

The Sentinel’s two rooms are self contained, each with its own entrance, but can be opened to provide two bedrooms and two bathrooms accommodating up to six people.

The main house has a large bedroom with an antique wooden queen bed, open stone fireplace and a large porch with rocking chairs to help you relax and enjoy the countryside.

Part of the second floor has been left open to the ship-lapped vaulted ceiling, giving an incredible feeling of space. The remainder of the second floor provides a wonderful loft/gallery with two twin-size brass beds that have original, hand painted nursery rhymes on the panel of each head board. The second floor area is approached by stairs that are fairly steep (not for the elderly or those not comfortable climbing stairs).

The private bathroom has a 1920’s skirted tub with shower and the original wainscoting.

What, in the original house, was the lean-to shed is now the Garden Room. The room has a Victorian ‘King’s Ransom’ wrought iron bed with the original hand painted panels. The private bathroom has an antique claw foot tub with shower.
