Country Retreat

We are very much a Country Retreat when you combine Merriam Webster’s definition of Retreat – ‘an act or process of withdrawing especially from what is difficult, or disagreeable’ with our own definition – ‘a refuge and a sanctuary away from the everyday and a place to be spoilt rotten’.

Tillworth

The name, Tillworth, comes from a tiny hamlet on the Dorset/Devon borders in the west of England where we once lived in a 350-year-old cottage. The beautiful Round Top countryside with its farmlands, cattle, historic buildings and friendly people constantly reminds us of our former home. We hope to have brought with us that special warmth and hospitality that comes from those parts. In your room you will find a book entitled ‘The History of Hawkchurch’. Hawkchurch was our closest village comprising the Saxon Church, the little post office-cum-general store and, of course, what every good English village must have, a pub.
